In a democracy, politics really do matter.  If you don't participate, someone else will, and then they will probably do what is best for them and not necessarily what is best for you.  The healthcare debate going on as I write this is certainly proof of that.  The people participating the loudest are the people with money.  We can stop that in shear numbers, but it can't be changed unless we the people change it.
